The Dewey Bulldoggers will run into a steep challenge in the team’s playoff opener. The Bulldoggers will play 3A No. 4 Beggs in the district playoffs in a non-elimination game on Saturday night.

Dewey has struggled through the season going 4-18 despite an experienced core of players. Dewey showed a glimmer of hope with a 52-51 victory over Caney Valley on February 14. Dewey head coach Lance Knight says the playoffs will be about competing.

The Doggers battled injuries in the second half of the season. Senior Hayden Thornton, a three-year starter, returned from injury in the senior night loss to Caney, Kansas on Tuesday.

Beggs is 21-1 on the season. The Golden Demons lone loss came to Wewoka on Dec. 14. Since then Beggs has won 19 consecutive games. The Doggers will play either Kansas or Keys-Parkhill in the Regional round next weekend. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. with Ty Loftis on the call on KWON AM 1400—FM 93.3.
