Dewey Heads to No. 6 Adair for District Opener

The Dewey Bulldoggers open district play in 2A-8 on Friday night with a trip to Adair. The Warriors are a familiar foe that has had Dewey’s number over the past several years. The Doggers lost the season openers to Adair every year between 2016 and 2019. Dewey was also ousted by the Warriors 56-8 in the playoffs last season.

All-time the Doggers are 0-5 against Adair. Senior running back Corbin Buford has been on the roster for four of those contests and he is hoping for a different result this time around.

Buford has rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns so far this season. He will also slot in some at linebacker come Friday night. Dewey’s offense will look to bounce back after scoring just 14 points in last week’s loss to Vinita. Head coach Trent Turner says moving the ball hasn’t been a problem but executing in key situations has been.

No. 6 Adair is expected to be a major factor in class 2A yet again. The Warriors have made the quarterfinals in every season since 2015. Turner was a part of that success during the 2018 season as the Warriors offensive coordinator before accepting the job at Dewey.

Radio coverage from Adair is set to begin at 6:30 p.m. You can listen to the broadcast on KRIG 104.9 FM.
