Dewey QB Battle Will Play Out When Activities Resume

The Dewey Bulldoggers revamped passing game was one of the main reasons why the team surged to seven wins in 2019. Trent Turner brought along an air raid offense that was an instant fit. Senior quarterback Kale Carner thrived accounting for 33 total touchdowns on the season. Carner graduated on Friday night and the search for his successor is already underway, although it has different look than planned due to the pandemic.

Junior Tate Lewis and sophomore Trenton Muninger are the two candidates for the job that Turner has pointed to all offseason. Turner gives a scouting report on the two gunslingers.

Lewis had one rushing touchdown in 2019 and made a couple of appearances in relief of Carner. Muninger saw a few varsity snaps as well. The second-year head coach hinted that a slight tweak to the offense could have come but without any spring ball it will likely stay the same as last year. Limited repetitions over the summer period could make the battle even more difficult to handicap going forward.

With no official word from the OSSAA on when summer activities can start up it is tough to say anything for certain. However, Turner and the Doggers are optimistic that they can see the field for their scheduled team camp in Inola on June 25 and 26.
