A former Lady Bruin Swimmer adds to a long list of accomplishments. Erin Downey has been named 2019 winner of the Jim Thorpe Award for girls swimming by the Oklahoma Sports Commission. Downey accepted the award on Thursday at the 35th Annual All-Sports and Scholar Athlete Awards Luncheon.

Downey was presented the award and honored as the best female high school swimmer in Oklahoma. She finishes her career as one of the most decorated athletes in the history of Bartlesville High School Athletics. Downey swam on four state championship teams during her time as a Bruin.

Downey will be the next Bruin on the pipeline to join the Kansas Jayhawks swim team. The Jayhawks already have Haley Downey, Erin’s older sister, as well former Bruins Greta Olsen and Kate Steward on the team.
