The Oklahoma Wesleyan’s men’s basketball shined in an all-around display on Tuesday night. OKWU downed John Brown University 77-58. The Eagles move to 2-0 early in the season.

OKWU struggled out of the gate, but quickly found its footing. The Eagles would go an early 9-2 run to build a 24-17 lead near the midpoint of the first half. OKWU took a 43-31 lead into halftime and gradually built that lead in the second half.

Wesleyan played hard nose defense and made life difficult for the Golden Eagles who shot just 36% from the field on the night.

No one scorer stood out for the Eagles. Dylan Phillip led the team with 11 points and freshman Derrick Talton Jr. scored 10 points. Lense Ramey scored a few big buckets as well, including this layup down the stretch that built the second half lead.

OKWU was not flawless but ultimately handled a solid opponent to pass an early season test. OKWU is next in action on Friday night with a home game against Mid-America Nazarene.
