Former Dogger LaRue Assigned to Double-A

A Dewey High School product is slated to continue his professional baseball career at the Double-A level. Former Bulldogger Carson LaRue was assigned to the Double-AA Corpus Christi Hooks in the Houston Astros system.

LaRue has been primarily used a starting pitcher over his three professional seasons. Last year, LaRue made 25 appearances for Single-A Buies Creek while posting an 8-7 record with a 4.18 ERA. The right-hander also eclipsed the 100-inning threshold for his second consecutive minor league season.

LaRue pitched one season at Oklahoma State in 2015 before transferring to Cowley County College for the 2016 season. LaRue dominated at Cowley as he posted an 11-1 record while striking out 133 hitters in 102 innings. This led to the Astros selecting LaRue in the 14th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.

The Astros are a pitching rich organization though so a potential call-up could be difficult for LaRue. According to MLB.com, Houston has 12 right-handed pitchers among its top 30 prospects.

While minor league rosters are subject to change with potential call-ups, the Hooks are slated to play the Tulsa Drillers in a four-game series from May 4th-7th at ONEOK Field.

Corpus Christi opens its season against Amarillo on Thursday.
