High School Football Practice Begins

High School football practice is finally upon us, as prep teams across the state of Oklahoma will begin their fall camps on Monday.

Most teams in Green Country will kick things off early again this season. Zero week will have a full slate of games on Friday, August 25. Bartlesville, Nowata, Dewey, Pawhuska and others will all have early games before the actual week one.

That allows teams to have a bye-week later on in the season to heal up before district play. At Bartlesville High, the Bruins begin practice before school starts, as BHS doesn’t start classes for another week.

Bartlesville head football coach John McKee says that is an advantage for his two young quarterbacks – Taton Hopkins and Noah Sunday - vying for a starting position.

The Bruins scrimmage is at home against Collinsville on August 18. The Bruins will open up the 2017 campaign on the road at McAlester on August 25. That is officially a 7:30 kickoff for week one. BHS will play all their other games at 7:00 unless game times are changed going forward.

We will have more on the start of high school football practice later on this week.
