High School Seniors Deal with Cancellation Fallout

High School Sports were officially canceled in the state of Oklahoma on Thursday, as the OSSAA made the decision via a vote at a board meeting just after 10:15 AM.

The writing was on the wall after the Oklahoma State Board of Education decided to close all school facilities through the end of the semester on Wednesday morning.

Bartlesville Assistant Athletic Director Jason Sport says it is an unfortunate situation for everyone, but it is particularly hard on seniors.

The action from the OSSAA only cancels athletics through the end of the school year. That would leave the possibility of summer football and other activities for the offseason once it begins in about 7 weeks in May.

Sport says that his heart goes out to any athlete or student, at Bartlesville or otherwise who had part of their senior year taken away.

As far as the athletic department is concerned, Sport says BHS coaches have been on top of continuing to talk with their athletes - keeping an open line of communication since everything started a couple weeks ago.

We will have more fallout from the decision to shut down high school sports over the next several days and weeks.
