Huskies Defeat Pawnee to Win Regional Championship

The Pawhuska Huskies faced a Pawnee team on Saturday night that they had lost to on two occasions earlier this season, but when it mattered most in the regional championship game, the Huskies were victorious, as they came away with a 61-59 victory. With two minutes left, Pawhuska led by nine, but the Black Bears attempted to make a comeback late. Coach Jake Christenson says it was free throws that made the difference late.

The Huskies started the game down 8-0, but cut the deficit to 17-13 at the end of the first quarter. It was 28-26 at halftime and Christenson believes the biggest play of the game came out of halftime.

Easton Kirk scored 24 points in the ballgame, but it was Isiah Walker who made some of the plays that don’t show up in the scorebook, including drawing two charges.

Pawhuska will next take on Hooker this Friday in Enid. With a win, they will advance to the state tournament.

Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. and that is a game you can hear on Sportstalk 99.1 FM - KPGM.
