Indians Drop State Title Tilt

The Doenges Ford Indians came a couple runs short of a state championship on Sunday evening, as Bartlesville could not muster enough offense to overcome a talented pitching staff for the Oklahoma Drillers.

The Tribe lost to the Drillers 2-0 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid in the AABC Connie Mack Oklahoma State Championship game.

Bartlesville managed only two hits against the Drillers, and never seriously threatened down the stretch.

Despite the lack of pop in the bats, Indian pitching kept Bartlesville in the game. Both Nik Johnson and Randsom Jones allowed seven hits and just two walks over seven innings. Johnson got the start and went four strong innings, while Jones pitched the last three. Each allowed one run.

This Jones strikeout in the top of the seventh gave Bartlesville a chance in the final frame.

The Tribe fall to 18-21 with the loss, but will have plenty of chances to inch closer to .500 with only one week left in the season. Bartlesville plays a double-header on Tuesday against Newton, Kansas at Ark City, on campus at Cowley County Community College.

The Indians then have home double-headers on Wednesday and Thursday – with KWON Night at the Ballpark on Thursday.

Bartlesville will then wrap up its 2020 season at home starting on Friday, as the RSU State Showcase will be played at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium this weekend.
