Indian's Fall to Ada - End Season

The 2019 season for the Doenges Ford Indian’s has come to an early end, as Bartlesville’s summer baseball team played its final games of the year this past Saturday.

The Indian’s were swept at Ada, as the A’s won four games over Bartlesville in total for the weekend. It was two run-ruled losses on Saturday, 14-2 and 15-0 that will be the final games of the year.

According to manager Anthoney Towers, the Indian’s do not have enough players to go compete at the Oklahoma State Legion Tournament, which will be in Madill.

There was a time when that event was going to be in Bartlesville this weekend, but the Indian’s have been thin all summer long. They were forced to play with less than nine players a few times down the stretch of the season, with the help of some opponents filling out a full nine-man roster.

This highlights what had been a problem all season long for Bartlesville's longstanding American Legion program.

The team only had about a dozen players out for tryouts in mid-May. Despite some nice additions throughout the year, such as the team’s only Bartlesville Bruin in Alan Covarrubias, along with Nowata guys like Jace Thompson and Emmett Sells, the Indian’s never had more than 11 or 12 guys at a game this summer.

There were not the usual presence from Bartlesville High School players, or returning freshman from college. The club was quite young when compared with its competition, with almost the entire roster made up of high school underclassmen.

Bartlesville will finish up 2019 with a 3-31-1 record.
