We have learned a lot about the prospects of the Doenges Ford Indians 2020 summer season over the past several days, but a lot more is still up in the air. With the ruling from the OSSAA that the summer will carry as originally scheduled that allows the Indians to fire up their season. Indians manager John Pannell says tryouts will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 28 and Friday, May 29 at the Oklahoma Wesleyan practice field.

As of right now, Bartlesville Public schools has not cleared Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium to be a site for activities. Pannell expects to see a strong contingent of guys vying for roster spots.

The second stint manager says he is still unsure if the program’s junior team, the Braves will exist this year due to a number of factors. Last year, roster numbers meant the Braves did not field a squad. At times the Indians were limited to 9-10 players on any given day.

The pandemic situation has made plans fluid but it appears as if the Indians will have similar opponents with the likes of Okmulgee, Ada, Fort Smith and Three Rivers on the calendar. Pannell says everyone is united around the of idea playing ball.

We will have more updates on the Indians and other amateur sports around the area all week long.
