Ironmen Looking to Build Off Win

For the first time in fifteen game weeks the Nowata Ironmen are looking to build off a win. Nowata will head on the road to Salina in an important district matchup.

The Ironmen ended a lengthy losing streak last Friday with a 33-6 victory over Chelsea. The Ironmen scored touchdowns on their first two offensive plays of the day and the outcome was never really in question.

Nowata head coach Bob Craig says it was great for all the kids who put in hard work every day to be rewarded.

Quarterback Skylar Thornton appeared to be back at full-strength in the win as he tossed two touchdowns and ran in another pair as well. The pass offense was great but the pass defense has been even better over the course of the season. Coach Craig says freshman cornerback Brayden Humphries has been a major part of that lockdown secondary play.

The Ironmen pass defense is allowing just 34 passing yards per game in two district contests. Nowata takes a 1-1 district record on the road to play Salina. The Wildcats have beaten both of Nowata’s first two opponents, Kansas Chelsea and are tied for first place in the district. Friday’s game kicks off at 7 p.m.
