Ironmen Vying for Second Straight Win

All of the sudden things are looking up for Nowata football. After a thrilling 22-12 homecoming victory over Kansas last week the Ironmen have a chance to do something they haven’t done since late in the 2016 season—win back-to-back games.

Nowata heads to Chelsea this Friday. The Ironmen defeated the Dragons in blowout fashion last season, 33-6. Chelsea is in its second year under Matt Hagebusch, who led the Ironmen to the state title game in 2014. The Dragons are 1-13 since the start of the 2018 season. Nowata is just one game better at 2-12. Ironmen head coach Chris Messner talks about the Dragons.

Nowata’s schedule eases up in the early and middle parts of district play. The next three opponents have a combined record of just 2-10. Nowata’s success is contingent on running the football behind an offensive line littered with three-year starters. All six of the Ironmen’s touchdowns in 2019 have been rushing, including three last week from fullback Josiah Clark.

No radio for the Ironmen this week. Kickoff from Chelsea is set for 7 p.m.
