It was a split night at the Mueller Sports Center on Wednesday for Oklahoma Wesleyan. The Lady Eagles won by double digits while the men’s team let a double digit lead slip away against Friends University.

The Lady Eagles led by 10+ points for a bulk of the contest. OKWU won despite being rather sloppy with the ball at times. It was a balanced scoring effort for the Lady Eagles as 10 different players tallied a point. Brittan Garrett found the bucket with this nice finish that put the Lady Falcons away.

That’s two wins in a row now for the Wesleyan women’s side. The Lady Eagles are now 9-3 overall and 5-3 in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

The men’s game came down to the last shot—and it was an Eagles miss as they lost 72-71 in a heartbreaker. The Eagles led 67-55 with eight minutes left, but would only make one field goal down the stretch.

Down 36-30 at halftime Wesleyan stormed out of the break on a 20-4 run. Austin Poling performed well with 17 points and five assists on the night. This dime to set up Jansen Lietzke help propel the Eagles run.

However, OKWU ran out of magic down the stretch. Up 71-68 with 30 seconds left the Eagles would surrender a four-point play to sacrifice the lead. The Eagles would miss two attempts to win before the buzzer sounded.

The Eagles are now 10-4 overall and 5-3 in conference. This loss snapped a 14-game home winning streak. Both teams are back in action for a home doubleheader on Saturday against St. Mary.
