We will be taking a look back at some of the top sports stories of the year over the next week, as we are about to turn the page on 2017 and look ahead to 2018.

One of the biggest sporting events in Bartlesville in the past 12 months was the Oklahoma Wesleyan NAIA baseball regional – It was the first time OKWU hosted a regional at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium in downtown Bartlesville. The Eagles won the tournament and qualified for the NAIA World Series in Lewiston Idaho.

OKWU won behind a spectacular power display. High winds and the short center field porch at Bill Doenges combined for a wild week in the regional. There were 62 home runs in the nine games played in the tournament.

Eagle head baseball coach Matt Parker said playing in that kind of weather takes some mental fortitude.

Oklahoma Wesleyan went on to lose in the NAIA World Series, falling to Missouri Baptist and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in back-to-back games.

We will have more on the best sports stories in Bartlesville in 2017 as the week continues.
