Nowata Blasts Wyandotte to Grab Three-Seed

A resurgence of Nowata football came to a climax on Friday night, as the Ironmen swept past Wyandotte en-route to the 2A postseason on senior night.

Nowata outdueled the Black Bears, 42-26 to secure the No.3 seed out of 2A District 4.

Despite trailing twice in the first two quarters, 6-0 and 12-6, it was still a contest Nowata (5-5) dominated. The Ironmen would score 36 of the final 50 points in the last 2.5 quarters to seal the win.

Already leading 14-12, Jace McKission found the endzone just before half to extend the lead before the break.

That score made it 22-12.

Out of the third quarter Nowata executed a back-breaking 12-play seven-minute drive that ended in a touchdown, Dillon Barnes' second of the night, and the game was starting to get out of reach.

With the loss, Wyandotte (4-6) finishes just on the outside of the playoffs, as the No. 5 team in 2A-4.

Now as the three-seed in 2A-4, Nowata will get the pleasure of taking on 2A powerhouse Beggs on the road in the first round of the playoffs.

Beggs fell to Sperry in the 2A-3 title game on Friday night, 33-15 to fall to the two seed out of that district.

We will have the Nowata-Beggs playoff game on KRIG 104.9 FM on Friday night.
