Nowata Hosts Chelsea in Critical District Game

The Nowata Ironmen saw a drastic improvement in last week’s district opener against Kansas and will now try to build off of that momentum in a home game against Chelsea.

The Ironmen saw senior quarterback Skylar Thornton back in the lineup, which led to a much-improved offensive day. Thornton threw for 157 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the 20-6 loss last week.

Ironmen head coach Bob Craig says Thornton gave the team a lift but there is still room for improvement.

Thornton had two touchdown passes in last year’s nail-biting 26-20 loss at Chelsea last season. Both teams enter the game at 0-4, needing a critical district win to keep the season from slipping away.

Craig is trying to teach his team how to win and that starts with limiting mistakes.

Chelsea comes in to the game having lost to Salina 49-7 last week to open district play. Kickoff between the Green Dragons and Ironmen at 7 p.m. from Nowata high School. Radio coverage can be heard on KRIG 104.9 FM starting at 6:45 p.m
