Nowata Sweeps Barnsdall in Basketball DH

High school basketball got started with a bang in Green Country on Tuesday night, as Nowata swept Barnsdall in a boys and girls double-header – it was the season opener for both clubs.

First on the boys side, it was all Nowata – Ironmen beat the Panthers 75-55. Nowata put its athleticism on display by taking advantage of transitions opportunities frequently in the victory.

Zen Callahan led all Nowata scorers with 20 points with Bryce Hewitt and Ronald Smith also in double figures. Callahan provided one of the many highlights of the night for Nowata with this buzzer-beating jumper that beat the third-quarter clock to extend the Ironmen’s lead.

Nowata also played stingy defense and outhustled the Panthers en-route to a 20-point victory.

The Lady Ironmen got a victory as well, beating the Lady Panthers, 66-48. Senior Kennedy Downing reached an impressive milestone last night. Downing scored her 1,000th career point in the fourth quarter.

She finished the game with a team-high 29 points. Thanks to Clint Hallet for that stat.

Both those teams are off until after the Thanksgiving Holiday.
