Nowata Topples Chelsea in Hewitt Tournament

 

The Nowata Ironmen beat down on Chelsea in the consolation semifinals of the Ty Hewitt Tournament, 68-29 on Friday night. The Ironmen hit 10 three-pointers in the blowout victory.

Nowata started off a bit slow and led 15-8 after one quarter. Then the team kicked it into gear with the outside shooting of Mark Price and Trenton Smith. The duo combined for 33 points on the night. Nowata outscored Chelsea 23-6 in the second quarter to pull away. Gabe Velasco aided the Ironmen with this hoop and harm.

Nowata led 38-14 at halftime. The Ironmen defense dominated in the third quarter as they allowed just three total points. Price put a cap on his night with breakaway buzzer beater.

Price had as many points as the Dragons through three quarters. Nowata would cruise in the final period as several underclassmen saw minutes. The Ironmen will square off with commerce Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the fifth place game. Nowata is 3-1 on the year.

The Lady Ironmen were also victorious over Chelsea, 36-33. The Lady Ironmen will play Mannford in the consolation finals.
