Top-ranked Oklahoma Union (21-1) handled No. 16 Nowata with ease on Friday night in the regular season finale. The Cougars won 71-44 in a game that never saw the outcome in jeopardy. OKU defended well and shot the lights out against an Ironmen (18-4) team that had players battling illness.

The Cougars led 20-9 after one period. OKU played suffocating defense and limited Nowata to eight points in the second quarter. It was 38-17 at the break. After halftime OKU continued the route. Sophomore Kade Hollingshead played a phenomenal game with 15 points. This one from long range built the Cougar lead.

Nowata seemed outmatched for this rare occasion. The loss was only the fourth of the year for the Ironmen. Senior Dillon Barnes proved once again he wasn’t intimidated by the Cougars though. Barnes scored 15 points, his second double-figures performance against OKU this season. This play to start the fourth quarter was his best highlight.

Both teams concluded the regular season on Friday night. OKU will be a favorite to be among the eight teams in Oklahoma City, while the Ironmen are poised to make a deep playoff run as well. Both teams will face the winners of play-in games next Saturday in the district playoffs.
