It was an exciting evening of basketball at the Mueller Sports Complex as both Eagle teams came away with wins over Ottawa.

The Lady Eagles were able to gut out a 56-40 victory to snap a two-game skid. OKWU was able to play tough defense from wire-to-wire in this contest.

It took Ottawa more than eight minutes of game time before it converted a field goal. The Lady Braves shot just 24% from the floor on the night.

After a strong first quarter Tiffany Rieger found her shooting touch in the second quarter as she exploded for nine of her 15 first half points. This three-pointer from the Senior guard captured momentum for the Lady Eagles before halftime.

OKWU let Ottawa stick around as the score was 38-28 heading into the final quarter. However, the Lady Eagles finally pulled away in the fourth as they went on a run early in the quarter to put the Braves to bed. Rieger had 19 points and was the only Lady Eagle in double-figures.

The night cap saw the OKWU men’s team win in thrilling fashion as they outlasted the Braves, 92-84 in overtime.

The Eagles stormed out to a decent lead as they went on a 10-2 run to open the game. Despite falling behind early Ottawa stuck around with Eagles going blow-for-blow in an offensive shootout.

The Eagles stretched the lead to double-figures once late in the first half and another time early in the second. The Braves had an answer for every OKWU basket and took the lead for the first time at the six-minute mark in the second.

OKWU had a big response down the stretch.

The Eagles led by three when they committed a costly turnover in the final minute of regulation. Ottawa answered when Alex Greisen hit a three-pointer to force overtime.

Breiman Alexander only had 11 points in regulation but he carried the torch for Wesleyan in the extra period. Alexander doubled that total leading the Eagles to victory with a game-high 22 points. This hustle play sealed the victory.

OKWU has now won six of its last seven ballgames.

Both the Eagles and Lady Eagles move into ties for second place in the KCAC with five regular season games remaining.
