It was another successful night for Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball as both teams got victories over Bethany. The woman’s team won a defensive struggle, 54-38. It was a close contest for the first three quarters but OKWU outscored Bethany 18-5 in the fourth quarter to pull away.

Makayla Melton was key down the stretch six of her 15 points in the final quarter. Hannah Nealis and Danae Goodwin scored 10 points apiece as well.

The win moves the Lady Eagles to 15-8 on the season and 11-7 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.

The men’s team got off to slow start as they fell down 6-3 in the first three minutes. Eagles head coach Donnie Bostwick called an early timeout to refocus the team and it did the trick. The Eagles would go on a 27-3 run over the next 12 minutes as they held the Swedes without a field goal.

OKWU led 46-22 at halftime. The Eagles defense held Bethany to 13 % from the field in the first half. However, Bethany would come charging back in the second half. The Swedes would score 54 points in the after the break.  At one point Bethany would cut the lead to 11 but that is as close as it would get.

In total, 14 different players tallied a point. Josh Wilchcombe led the OKWU with 14 points. This big dunk put a cap on a great night for the Eagles.

The second-ranked Eagles move to 23-1 and 17-1 in KCAC play. Both teams will play next on Saturday with a home doubleheader against Tabor College.
