Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball earned another conference sweep on Wednesday night after both the men’s and women’s teams dispatched of St. Mary.

The Lady Eagles had a flare for the dramatic in the 65-64 victory. The Lady Eagles trailed 64-62 with less than 10 seconds remaining when junior guard Coley Ickes forced the Spires player to go over the midcourt line on an inbounds play to force a turnover and give OKWU a breath of life. Ickes then tied the game on this phenomenal driving layup. Ickes converted the free throw and gave the Lady Eagles the thrilling victory.

Ickes finished with 12 points. The win pushes the Lady Eagles to 6-2 on the season and 2-1 in KCAC play.

The men’s team found themselves trailing at halftime for the first time this season. However, the Eagles would outscore the Spires by 25 points in the second half to earn their eighth straight win to open the season, 89-66.

The sharpshooting of Jake Feickert and Brooks Haddock propelled the team after shooting 2-18 from three-point range in the opening half. The duo combined for six three-pointers in the second half. This four-point play from Feickert was a nail in the coffin.

Feickert finished with 20 points and Haddock had a career-high 23 points. The Eagles have now won 16 consecutive games at the Mueller Sports Center dating back to last season.

Both teams are off for Thanksgiving before resuming the KCAC with a trip to Wichita to take on Friends University on Monday.
