OKWU Swept at Friends
Oklahoma Wesleyan’s men’s and women’s basketball teams were swept on the road at Friends on Saturday evening in Wichita. The Lady Eagles fell out of a contest late, while a comeback fell short for the Eagle men.
On the ladies side, OKWU fell 91-65. Wesleyan fell behind 26-11 after the first quarter and never seriously threatened.
After a strong start to the year, the Lady Eagles have gone just 3-8 since the New Year. Oklahoma Wesleyan falls to 13-12 on the year, 9-11 in conference play.
On the men’s side, a few missed opportunities in the final minutes plagued the Eagles, as they fell in overtime, 75-71. OKWU was down 11 points at halftime before storming back to tie the game five minutes into the second half. A shot just before the buzzer gave Wesleyan a second life down by three in the final seconds.
The Eagles had as big as a three point lead in the extra period, but could not hold on. Eagles are 19-7, 14-6 in conference play. Some missed bunnies down the stretch hurt OKWU.
Oklahoma Wesleyan falls out of a tie for first place in the conference with the loss.
Both the Eagle clubs will be next on the road against St. Mary on Wednesday.
