The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball team won the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship on Monday night with 74-68 win over top-seeded Ottawa. With the win the Eagles clinched a spot in the NAIA National Tournament for the third consecutive year.

OKWU lead by as many as 16 points in the first half before the Braves stormed back to tie the game at halftime, 41-41. The Eagles were led by Jansen Lietzke who scored 13 of his team-high 18 points in the first half.

Tied at 52-52 in the second half, OKWU would score 12 unanswered points over seven minutes to lead 64-52. However, Ottawa would respond with a 10-0 run of its own to follow. The game would go shot-for-shot into the final minutes. With the Eagles up by one late freshman Kaleb Stokes hit the biggest shot of the season.

The Eagles would lead 72-68 from there and wouldn’t give Ottawa another point for the final two minutes of the game. This is the second time OKWU has won the KCAC tournament in the last three years. Wesleyan head coach Donnie Bostwick was thrilled after the victory.

With a bid locked up already the Eagles will learn their seeding for the national tournament in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
