OSSAA Continues With Fall Sports

The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association again has decided to move forward with athletics and activities this fall – in fact they have been going on for nearly a month already.

At its regularly scheduled board meeting on Wednesday morning the group took no action on altering the fall schedule for athletics and activities this fall.

With many OKC and Tulsa metro schools moving to online-only instruction for the first several weeks of the year, the OSSAA sent a survey to school districts over the past couple weeks to see if they believed a change in the schedule should be made.

Executive Director David Jackson says overwhelmingly, school districts in the state want to have activities this fall.

Here in Northeast Oklahoma, there have not been any major disruptions yet to the fall sports already underway. Softball, volleyball and cross country having practiced for four weeks, with games already underway. Football is into its fourth day of practice.

Jackson said schools should be willing to stay flexible, and that a move to the spring for fall athletics would be a last resort for the state.
