The Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association officially released a statement on Tuesday on the future of spring sports in the high school ranks in the state.

After the state board of education made the decision to close schools through April 6 earlier this week, it effectively stopped all the sports or practices in the state.

The OSSAA reiterated this point in the statement, and said all extra circular activities are in a dead period until that date.

In regards to spring sports, the OSSAA said “After careful consideration, the OSSAA remains determined to make every effort to play all spring activities as scheduled. Should it become necessary, the OSSAA will make adjustments to the current schedules and communicate those changes to the membership.”

The OSSAA also restated its goal to play the state championships in basketball, which were scheduled for this past weekend, saying “After careful consideration, the OSSAA remains determined to make every effort to play the State Basketball Championships for Classes 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A and 6A. We will continue to work with the State Department of Education, the State Health Department, and the Governor’s office as we work to reschedule these tournaments.”

Bartlesville Public Schools will have some more information on their plans going forward with schooling and other items on Wednesday morning during our exclusive community connection with Superintendent Chuck McCauley on KWON at 8:30
