Congrats to Oklahoma Union, as the Lady Cougars and Cougar guys were both the winners of the Caney Valley Tournament on Saturday in Ramona.

It was the first time since 2001 that two teams from the same high school have swept that event.

The girl’s victory may have been the most impressive. Oklahoma Union gave the Caney Valley girls their first loss of the season, avenging an earlier defeat on Jan. 8. The Lady Cougars won the title game 46-37.

The Lady Trojans drop to 16-1 on the year, while the Oklahoma Union girls are now 16-2.

On the guy’s side, the Cougars dispatched of Barnsdall with a little bit of dramatics. Oklahoma Union topped the Panthers 68-63.

Barnsdall had a couple brief one-point leads in the first half, but for the most part Oklahoma Union led wire-to-wire. The Cougars were led in scoring by Kohlsyn Gibson, but it was Logan Key who was the difference maker. Key had several big offensive rebounds to seal the win. He was named tournament MVP.

Barnsdall did its part to make things interesting, making three three-pointers down the stretch to cut the lead down to three in the final seconds, but that is as close as the Panthers could get.

Barnsdall is 16-2, Oklahoma Union improves to 17-1.
