Pawhuska Looks to Avoid COVID Pitfalls

Pawhuska football is carrying the torch for Northeast Oklahoma now, as the Huskies are the only club across Osage, Washington and Nowata Counties still kicking in the high school postseason.

Pawhuska is in an interesting situation heading into its third-round playoff game against Warner on Friday.

The Huskies have not played a game in the postseason yet – they earned a first-round bye, then had Hominy forfeit in the second round last week.

Warner is coming off a forfeit victory as well, but did play a first round game – The Eagles topped Savanna 49-0 back on Nov. 13.

Pawhuska is undefeated at 10-0, and looking to justify its No.1 ranking in Class A. Head coach Matt Hennesy says COVID-19 is one of the biggest concerns for his team.

Hennesy says several players moved to virtual learning over the past few weeks to stay safe at home.

Warner is 7-4, but has won four in a row.

We will have more on Pawhuska’s first Class A playoff game throughout this week, and we will have the game on Friday night on 99.1 FM – KPGM and KPGMTV.com.
