The Pawhuska football added an NFL-hopeful to its coaching staff this week. Head coach Matt Hennessy announced that former North Texas quarterback Mason Fine has joined the Huskies staff as a volunteer coach. Hennessy coached Fine when he was one of the top passers in state history at Locust Grove from 2012-2015.

Fine was optimistic that an NFL team would come calling but COVID-19 has halted in-person workouts and put him at a disadvantage. Hennessy is excited to have him aboard but he knows it could be for only a short time.

Fine will work with the Pawhuska quarterbacks and will be a great teaching aid for Bryce Drummond who previously announced a commitment to North Texas. Having a former Division 1 quarterback as a mentor can only be benefit according to Hennessy.

Drummond led Pawhuska to the state quarterfinals last season. The Huskies have the talent and coaching that they could be viewed as a contender once again. Pawhuska opens practice on Monday and their first game is set for August 28 at Perry.
