Pitching Leads the Way for Bruin Baseball

It wasn’t a good start for the Bruin baseball team in its own Bruin Classic, but Bartlesville High turned things around with two wins on Saturday.

BHS beat Park Hill South 3-2, then topped Ft. Osage 9-1 to finish out the tournament at 2-2. The last two performances cap off a brilliant week for the Bruin pitching staff.

Bartlesville (6-9) threw 33 innings last week and gave up only 12 earned runs. That is good for a 2.8 Earned Run Average. There have been signs that this Bruin pitching staff could be a formidable one, here is Bartlesville head baseball coach Spence Rigdon.

Harold Borg and Lucas Rietfors combined for the two wins on Saturday. Borg went 5 and a third against Park Hill South and gave up two runs on six hits. Rieftors threw four scoreless frames with three strike outs and only one hit allowed.

Bartlesville was scheduled to host Bixby on Monday evening at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium, but that game has been postponed due to the teacher walkout.

Bartlesville High is next scheduled to be at Bixby on Tuesday afternoon for a single game at 5:00 PM. We will carry that ballgame for you on KWON – AM 1400 and FM 93.3.
