Previewing OKWU Baseball Ahead of this Weekend's Opener

It may still be chilly outside but the Oklahoma Wesleyan baseball team is getting set for its opening series this weekend. The fifth-ranked Eagles will play three home games against Lyon College at Doenges Stadium.

The Eagles are coming off the heels of an impressive to the NAIA World Series last season. OKWU is returning last year’s NAIA player of the Year, Chris Acosta-Tapia, who hit .441 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs in the 2017 campaign. Eagles head coach Matt Parker knows expectations are high for his returning star.

The end of games was a bright spot for the 2017 Eagles and that trend will likely continue in 2018. The late-game trio of Landon Williams, Lizandro Cruz and Tyler Shumpert will be shutting down games again this year. The three combined for a 2.39 ERA in 120 1/3 innings pitched last season. Coach Parker talks about the luxury of late-game consistency.

First pitch from Doenges is slated for 2:00 p.m. on Friday with a doubleheader scheduled for Saturday at noon.

Our full sit down interview with coach Parker is avaible here.
