And Today in Sports History with some Oklahoma ties… Happy 67th birthday to one of the best third basemen of all time, George Brett.

The former Kansas City Royal played all 21 seasons of his Major League career with the Boys in Blue.

Brett played from 1973-1993, had a career batting average of .305, with 3,154 hits, 317 home runs and nearly 1,600 RBIs.

Brett is still a part of the Royals organization today, serving as vice president of baseball operations for the past several years, and had a brief stint as KC’s hitting coach in 2013.

An Oklahoma connection to Brett… He is well-known for his infamous Pine Tar incident, which happened on July 24, 1983 – when Brett connected on a two-run homer at Yankee Stadium that was eventually called back, the runner on first base was from Oklahoma…

UL Washington was born in Stringtown, Oklahoma, went to college at Murray State in Tishomingo.'

The home run was later allowed after Kansas City protested the call.
