Today in Sports History with some Oklahoma Ties… Happy Birthday on May 27,1962 to longtime Oklahoma head softball coach Patty Gasso, who turns 58 . Gasso was born in LA in 1962.

Gasso has been the head softball coach at OU for 25 years - she was hired in 1995 to take over the program. She was previously the head coach at Long Beach State, where she played in college, for four years.

Gasso has had unprecedented success in Norman, guiding the Sooners to four Women’s College World Series championships in 2000, 2013, 2016 and 2017.

Oklahoma have been to the WCWS nine times during her tenure. Her overall record in Norman is 1,274–337–2, which is good for a .790 win percentage, which is the highest among any NCAA softball coach with a minimum of 800 wins.
