Top-Ranked Cougars Get Past Dewey

Oklahoma Union prevailed in a scrappy battle over Dewey Tuesday night, 66-47. The top-ranked Cougars used a superior defense to push past the Doggers in the second half.

The game was a back-and-forth battle early on. Both teams showed prowess from beyond the arc to get the game started. Hayden Thornton was the ignitor for Dewey with 27 points. This one from long range gave the Doggers a first quarter lead.

OKU would take the lead at 24-19 after one quarter. The Cougars put distance between themselves and Dewey. Kohlsyn Gibson was the Cougars No. 1 option with 24 points on the night. This fastbreak bucket push the Cougars out in front big before the break.

It was 44-27 at halftime. The Cougars stretched the lead to 26 points at its biggest in the second half. Dewey held the Cougars scoreless in the final four minutes to pull back within 20 points at the buzzer.

OKU is 15-1 on the season with a week to rest before a matchup with Chelsea. Dewey is now 3-13 and will square off with Sperry on Friday. The Cougars finished the season series at 2-0 against the Doggers.
