The final day of the 27th Annual Caney Valley tournament is here as both the Trojans and Lady Trojans will play for a title. But first let’s take a look back at the consolation bracket action from Friday night.

Wesleyan Christian topped Foyil 58-53 in a captivating ballgame. The Mustangs led by 13 early on in the contest as they got off to a blazing start. Clayton Holley helped the hot start with eight first quarter points.

Foyil would come charging back though. The Panthers would eventually take the lead with seven minutes remaining in the game. That’s when Levi Harper hit a big shot tie the game and get the Mustangs momentum rolling again.

Harper finished with 12 points. Wesleyan would take the upper hand late, while the Panthers struggled from the free throw line. WCS will now play Chelsea for fifth place at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

--

Our other featured game saw Copan come up short against the Green Dragons. The Hornets trailed by 14 points entering the final period. Copan would lose 58-56 after a valiant comeback effort. Tyrek Millien played a tremendous game as he had 13 of his 22 points down the final stretch. Copan will play Foyil at 11:30 p.m. for seventh place.

The Caney Valley boys’ team will seek its first title in its own tournament since 2012. The Trojans beat Foyil and outlasted Barnsdall to get here. Senior Cheyton Shepherd has put up double-digit points in both contests in the tournament. Although he did miss a few minutes against Barnsdall with an apparent leg injury. Trojans head coach Tug Brinker talks about the importance of his senior star.

Caney Valley squares off with No. 20 Liberty at 8:30 p.m. on KRIG 104.9 FM. The Trojans have lost to the Tigers in the third place game each of the last two years.

It will be a repeat final on the girl’s side as Caney Valley and Oklahoma Union meet for the third time in a row. The Lady Cougars took the 2019 trophy while Caney Valley won it 2018. We’ll have that game on the radio at 7 p.m. as well.

The boy’s third place game between Barnsdall and Oklahoma Union JV will start our coverage at 5:30 p.m. on KRIG 104.9 FM.
