Young Caney Valley Team Hungry for More in 2018

Down in Ramona, Caney Valley High School is entering its second week of classes as well as its second week of football practices. The Trojans are coming of a playoff appearance last year, a first exit at the hands of Holland Hall. However, that was the school’s first postseason trip since 2010.

‘Unfinished business’ is the motto for Caney Valley heading into the fall of 2018. Head coach Stephen Mitchell says his team is hungry for a playoff win after falling short last season.

Changes on the offense will take the forefront of Mitchell’s focus. Last year’s quarterback Christian Colbert is moving to tailback for his senior season which opens up for freshman Jackie Black to take the reins of the offense.

Mitchell says his main goal for preseason practices is to get Black and other underclassmen up to speed before game action starts.

The Trojans open with a zero week contest against Class-A power Barnsdall on August 24.
