Assessment teams from FEMA will be in Bartlesville and rural parts of Washington County this week to observe damage from the May 6 tornadic storms.

Washington County Emergency Management Director Kary Cox says this is one of the first steps to see if residents and local/county government will qualify for federal disaster assistance.

At Monday morning's Washington County Commissioners meeting, the commissioners signed a proclamation declaring a disaster emergency.
Commissioner Mitch Antle said Cox was already empowered to take immediate action following last week's storm, but this is another step in the process for state assistance.

Washington County crews are still working to clean up debris after the tornado, specifically near the area of Gap Road and the Southview neighborhood.
