Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected to develop along a cold front by late Tuesday afternoon in northeast Oklahoma and southeast Kansas.

The National Weather Service says all modes of severe weather will be possible, with the threat continuing into the late evening and overnight hours. Additional storms may develop late tonight and continue into the day Wednesday.

Osage and Chautauqua counties are in a “marginal” risk area (Level 1 of 5) and Washington, Nowata and Montgomery counties are in a “slight” risk area (Level 2 of 5). The main threats include 70-80 mph wind gusts, up to golf ball or tennis ball sized hail and a limited risk of tornadoes.

The most likely timing of impact in the listening area will be between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m., but could occur as early as 3 p.m. The severe weather threat should diminish after 1 a.m. Wednesday.
