Great start to the 2024-25 basketball season for Bartlesville High School, as the Bruin girls and guys both got wins over Ponca City to begin the season on Friday night at Bruin Field House.

The Lady Bruins handled Ponca with ease. Bartlesville used a 20-3 run in the second quarter to get a 70-32 blow out win over the Wildcats.

Newcomer Sami Sheaffer had 16 first half points to lead the way. She finished with a game-high 18 with multiple assists. This and-one in transition helped add to the Bruin advantage.

BHS had not won a season opener since 2018.

On the guy’s side a grind-it-out game turned into a somewhat easy Bartlesville win.

The Bruins won 49-40.

BHS led 15-7 at the break. Bartlesville ended up leading by 20 at the end of the third quarter. Ponca City eventually cut the BHS lead to eight with less than four minutes to play, but could get no closer.

Head coach Tommy DeSalme implemented a stifling defense with 13 different guys logging minutes in the first half. Daeton Stevens stuck this offensive rebound back in to extend the BHS lead.

Both BHS teams are 1-0 and are back in action to begin District play at Edmond North on Dec. 3.
