Bartlesville High football played a thriller on the road at Claremore on Friday night, but the Bruins did not have enoughin the tank to come all the way back.

Zebras held off a late BHS threat, 35-33.

Bartlesville twice had the ball down by two in the second half but could not muster a score to ever take the lead. The comeback was impressive on its own, as Bartlesville trailed by 16 in the second quarter and was down 14-0 early in the contest.

A late 95-yard-plus touchdown from Damien Niko on a screen play would get Bartlesville back to within two in the final three minutes.

Bartlesville narrowly missed on recovering an onside kick, then stopped the Zebras on their next drive. Down by two BHS threw an interception with 30 seconds left that ended it.

Niko would finish with a career best 261-yards unofficially.

The Bruins would never go away, Bartlesville rallied to within nine points at halftime after touchdowns from Daeton Stevens and Sutton Williams. The Bruins scored touchdowns on three of their final four drives in the 2nd quarter.

After the teams traded punts early in the third quarter, it was a great grab from Niko off an even better throw from Nate Neal that got BHS back in it, again.

BHS starts at 0-2 to begin the year.

Bartlesville is off this coming Friday. No game for the Bruins until Sept. 20 at Custer Stadium when Bartlesville hosts Collinsville.
