We are only one week away from the first sign that summer is just around the corner, as the Doenges Ford Indians will be holding tryouts on May 16 in downtown Bartlesville.

It is year No. 83 that the Tribe will have a team, and once again the manager is John Pannell, a former Indian and Bruin. It is year No. 15 overall of Pannell leading the program, which makes him the longest tenured manager in the historic team’s history over two separate stints. The most recent one beginning in 2020.

Bartlesville went 15-17-1 last year and will be set to return several notable players. The Indian’s will again be a 19-and-under club this summer. Bartlesville had been in a collegiate league at some points over the past four years.

Pannell talks about who is eligible to play with the Tribe this summer.

The Indians are becoming a unique entity in summer baseball, as many high schoolers and opting to play travel baseball or play with guys from bigger metro areas.

Pannell says there is something special about Indian’s baseball that helps a player grow.

Tryouts start at 7:00 on May, 16 at Bill Doenges Memorial Stadium.

Bartlesville’s season will begin at some point over the Memorial Day weekend at home. The Indians still have a couple scheduled trips to Arkansas and the Glen Winget Tournament at home along with a handful of regular season games, too.

KWON and KWONTV.com will have Indian’s baseball on the air once again this summer.
