OKWU Hoops Splits With Avila in KCAC Matchup

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) doubleheader on Wednesday against Avila University.
The Lady Eagles fell, 80-56, the Eagles won their ninth straight, 76-71.
In the women's game, Avila didn't start pulling away until the second half. OKWU scored 20 points in the first quarter and trailed by just three at the half, 36-33.
Khassidy Warr led the way offensively with 12 points. She made this three-pointer as the shot clock expired in the last minute of the first half.
The Lady Eagles lost their offensive touch in the second half, they were outscored 44-23 in the final two quarters.
The loss drops the Lady Eagles to 7-14 overall and 3-12 in the KCAC.
On the men's side, OKWU led for almost 37 minutes of the contest but could never fully put Avila away. The Eagles opened up the game on a 13-3 run and led by five, 37-32, at the half.
OKWU grew the lead as large as 10 points in the second half before Avila responded with a 9-0 run to make it interesting. In the final four minutes, this Yashi McKenzie floater gave the Eagles the lead back.
Avila took the lead for a short time in the final two-and-a-half minutes of the second half. OKWU responded with a 7-0 run to put the game away.
The win keeps OKWU in first place in the conference standings by two games with seven conference games left. The Eagles are 19-2 and 14-1 in the KCAC.
Both Eagle clubs return on Saturday to wrap up the three game homestand against Bethany College. The Lady Eagles will get the afternoon started at 1 p.m. with the men to follow around 3 p.m. Both games can be heard on Sports Talk, 99.1 FM - KPGM.
