OKWU Hoops Splits With Evangel

Oklahoma Wesleyan basketball split a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) doubleheader on Wednesday against Evangel University.
 
The Lady Eagles fell, 87-50, the Eagles won another thriller, 75-72.
 
In the women's game, the Lady Eagles got down double-digits early and could never recover. The Valor opened up the game on an 11-0 run and led 35-11 at the end of the first quarter. Evangel scored 52 points in the first half.
 
OKWU's defense tightened up in the second quarter and shots started to fall. Gracie Alexander made this three-pointer to try and get the offense going in the second quarter.
 
Alexander finished with a team-high 14 points with two three-pointers.
 
The Lady Eagles fall to 6-13 with the loss and 2-11 in the KCAC.
 
On the men's side, the Eagles had to escape to pull out another single digit conference win. In a game of runs, neither side led by double-digits. Evangel took a one-point lead into the halftime break, 37-36.
 
In a back-and-forth second half, OKWU's largest lead was eight. This three-pointer from Tamaje Izuagbe stretched the lead to five just past the midpoint of the second half.
 
Izuagbe finished with 28 points.
 
In the final moments, it came down to OKWU's defense. After a missed free throw from the Eagles, Evangel needed a three-pointer to tie it. Relive the ending on KWON and KPGM.
 
The win makes it seven in a row for the Eagles. They are 12-1 in the KCAC and 17-2 overall.
 
Both Eagle clubs are scheduled to play Tabor on Saturday afternoon, weather pending. The Lady Eagles would get the afternoon started at 2 p.m. with the men to follow around 4 p.m.
