Oklahoma Wesleyan University has released their male and female athletes of the year.

OKWU named Derrick Talton Jr. from the men's basketball team as the male athlete of the year, and Maddy McKinney from women's volleyball as the female athlete of the year.

Talton Jr. was a pivotal piece in the run to the national championship game for men's basketball for OKWU. He was Co-Player of the Year this year in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, Defensive Player of the Year, and an NAIA All-American selection for the second time in his career.

Talton Jr. was granted a year of Division I eligibility and announced in May that he would continue his basketball career at the University of Buffalo.

McKinney, a native of Delaware, Oklahoma and product of Oklahoma Union High School, helped lead OKWU women's volleyball to a 31-4 season, capped off with a regular season and tournament championship in the KCAC.

The senior middle blocker led the team in blocks with 71 and was fourth in kills with 202. She took home a second-team all-conference award and was OKWU's Champion of Character for the KCAC.

Congrats to both Derrick Talton Jr. and Maddy McKinney on being named male and female athletes of the year at Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
