The Pawhuska Huskies and Lady Huskies competed in the first round of the Alva High Shootout on Thursday. Both teams competed against high quality competition, but they both fell short.

The Huskies lost to Jones, 48-37. Pawhuska led for parts of the first half and the game was tied at 21 at halftime. After falling behind by eight in the third quarter, it was this three-pointer that kept Pawhuska within striking distance late in the third quarter.

A basket from Trenton Miles trimmed the lead early in the final frame, but Jones ended the game on an 11-3 run.

The Lady Huskies never led against Deer Creek in a 53-51 loss. Pawhuska trailed by double-digits for a majority of the first half, but trimmed the lead to seven heading into the fourth quarter. This basket from Maggie Green led to the game’s lone tie at 51 with 90 seconds remaining.

Deer Creek sank two free throws after getting fouled on a three point shot with one second left to get the win.

The Huskies will now play Enid’s JV squad at 2 p.m. on Friday and the girls will play after that against Alva’s JV team. You can hear both of those games on Sportstalk KPGM FM 99.1 AM 1500.
