Pawhuska Splits With Larger Grove Team

It was a step up in the size of competition for Pawhuska on Saturday night as Class 4A Grove visited Orin Terrill Fieldhouse. The Lady Huskies came away with an easy win, while the guys fell.
On the girls side, Pawhuska won 44-33, but it wasn't even that close, as the Lady Huskies had a 21 point lead entering the final quarter. After Grove made the opening basket of the game, Pawhuska led for the remainder of the game.
Brooklyn Miles led all scorers with 25 points, but Emilee Curry finished in double figures with 12. Leading by nine midway through the second quarter, here are her first two points of the night.
With the win, Pawhuska improves to 13-1 on the season. They are off until Thursday when they will take on Olive at 10 a.m. in the opening round of the Yale Tournament.
Offensively, the boys got off to a great start, leading 18-9 at the end of the first quarter. Despite slowing down in the second quarter, the Huskies still led by four at halftime, but ultimately fell, 64-59.
Grove had a 41-40 lead heading into the final frame and opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run. Things were looking bleak for Pawhuska, but a technical foul against Grove's leading scorer gave him his fourth foul and on the ensuing offensive possession, Jenson Snodgrass drove aggressively to the rim and got him out of the game.
Consecutive defensive stops by Pawhuska cut the Grove lead to one with 90 seconds left, but a three-point play from the Ridgerunners and two free throws following a defensive stop helped get Grove over the hump.
Scoring for Pawhuska was well-distributed once again, as Kane Foreman, Darian West and Snodgrass were all in double figures.
Pawhuska will take on Woodland in the first round of the Yale Tournament immediately following the conclusion of the Pawhuska girl's game. We will have both of those games for you on 99.1 FM KPGM and audio coverage available at KPGMTV.com.
