A young man with Bartlesville ties will likely make his Major League Baseball debut on Thursday afternoon.

The No. 1 prospect in baseball, the Kansas City Royal’s Bobby Witt Jr., is likely to get the nod at third base as the Royals face the Cleveland Guardians to open up the 2022 season at Kauffman Stadium this afternoon.

Witt Jr’s mom, Lauri Whitt, used to be a Bartian – her maiden name is Laurie Capps. Capps went to College High.

His grandpa on his mom’s side, Ronald Capps, still lives in Bartlesville at last check. Bobby Sr. and Laurie met during their time at the University of Oklahoma.

Witt Jr. had committed to OU before signing professionally with Kansas City. He blew his way through the minor leagues the past two years and will be making an anticipated debut for the Royals.
