Bullpups Sweep Humboldt on the Road

The Caney Valley Lady Bullpups opened the night with a 42–37 win over Humboldt, though it wasn’t exactly a stress-free stroll. Caney Valley led by as many as 11 just before halftime, only to watch the game tighten up in the second half as whistles flew in all directions. Officiating was a talking point throughout the night for both sides, with neither the Lady Cubs nor the Lady Bullpups escaping the confusion. Through it all, Elyn Washburn carried the scoring load, dropping 21 points and doing just enough to keep Caney Valley in front when it mattered.

The boys game, on the other hand, turned into a full-blown demolition after the opening quarter. Once the Bullpups found their rhythm, Humboldt had no answer. By the end of the third, the running clock was already in effect, and the only real suspense left was which Caney Valley player would end up in double figures next. The Bullpups rolled to an 85–42 win, with four players hitting double digits: James Kistler with 13, Gavin Messner with 15, Brayden Messner with 16, and Layne Denny leading the charge with 18.

With the sweep, both the boys and girls improve to 12–5 on the season. Next up, it’s another road trip Tuesday night as the Bullpups and Lady Bullpups head to Cherryvale, where they’ll look to keep the win column busy and the scoreboard operator employed.
